Cookie Consent and Fingerprinting

Cookie Consent and Fingerprinting

Privacy-First by Default

EuroMetrics is designed to work without cookies and without collecting personal data, so in its default configuration you usually do not need a consent banner. Two related settings come into play only when you opt into more precise visitor identification: fingerprinting and the consent banner.

Consent Scan

In Website Settings, the consent scan checks whether your site already runs a consent manager (CMP) such as Cookiebot, OneTrust, Osano, or TrustArc. It shows a status badge so you know whether consent is already being handled on your side. You can re-run the scan at any time.

Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting improves the accuracy of unique-visitor identification by using device characteristics. Because it processes device data, it is governed by a data processing agreement and a visitor consent banner.

Step 1: Sign the DPA

If your organization has not signed the data processing agreement yet, you will see a notice prompting you to do so first. Open Settings → Legal and sign the DPA. This is required before fingerprinting can be enabled.

Step 2: Enable Fingerprinting

In Website Settings → Fingerprinting, turn on the fingerprinting switch. Additional consent-banner fields then appear.

Step 3: Configure the Consent Banner

When fingerprinting is on, a consent banner is shown to your visitors. Configure:

  • Banner position: Bottom bar, Left, or Right. Each option shows a small preview.
  • Privacy policy URL (required): a link to your privacy policy, shown in the banner.
  • Data controller name (required): the legal entity that owns the website. This is the data controller under GDPR. Enter your company’s legal name here, not the EuroMetrics product name.

Use Preview to see the live banner, then Save. Visitors will see Accept / Reject buttons and a link to your privacy policy.

Advanced: Setting Banner Values on the Script Tag

The tracking script can also read banner settings directly from data-attributes, which the tracker otherwise fetches automatically:

  • data-privacy-policy: privacy policy URL
  • data-consent-position: bottom, left, or right
  • data-controller-name: data controller name

In most cases you do not need these. Configure the banner in Website Settings and the tracker picks the values up on its own. See Tracking Script Options for the full list of attributes.
