When comparing web analytics platforms for European businesses, data residency, GDPR readiness and pricing transparency matter most. Google Analytics is run by a US company, and in 2022 the data protection authorities of Austria, France and Italy found specific uses of it unlawful. Plausible Analytics, based in Estonia, hosts data in Germany and is fully open source, but has no free plan and no built-in SEO or uptime tools. Fathom Analytics is based in Canada and stores data on US servers after anonymising EU visits. EuroMetrics stores analytics data in Paris, tracks without cookies, includes white-label from the Business plan and offers a free plan with 10,000 events a month.
